At the ceremony attended by Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il and Hangang River Basin Environmental Office Chief Kim Dong-gu, the city agreed to share information about local festivals with the Hangang River Basin Environmental Office in advance and to limit the use of disposable products and encourage the use of reusable containers when operating food-related booths at festival sites. The Hangang River Basin Environmental Office plans to actively support the city in hosting festivals without disposable products.
Mayor Lee said, "I consider it meaningful to have signed this significant agreement to overcome the climate crisis," adding, "Since it is important to faithfully implement the spirit of the agreement, the city will pay close attention to this." Chief Kim also responded, "We will actively cooperate with Yongin City to reduce the use of disposable products and respond to carbon neutrality and climate change."
Earlier, the city and the Hangang River Basin Environmental Office held an event at the 'Yongin Marathon' held last month, using reusable containers at food trucks and water stations to reduce the use of disposable products.
The city plans to use this agreement as an opportunity to reduce the use of disposable products at local festivals and contribute to the continuous transition to a circular economy society.
