The 'Nowon-gu Volunteer Disaster Prevention Corps' of Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it ranked 2nd nationwide and 1st in Seoul in the '2024 Ministry of the Interior and Safety Volunteer Disaster Prevention Corps Evaluation.'

This evaluation was conducted to comprehensively analyze the disaster prevention, response, and recovery activities of volunteer disaster prevention corps nationwide, aiming to spread a culture of safety and strengthen systematic disaster management capabilities.

The 'Nowon-gu Volunteer Disaster Prevention Corps' is a disaster prevention organization voluntarily formed by residents who are well-acquainted with local conditions and have a strong willingness to actively participate, in order to eliminate blind spots in disaster response caused by the unpredictability and large scale of disasters. Currently, a total of 1,114 members are actively engaged.

The members play a frontline role at disaster sites and carry out important duties to protect the safety of local residents. They conduct activities to prevent damage from natural disasters such as heatwaves, typhoons, heavy rains, and heavy snowfall during normal times, and when disasters occur, they cooperate with the district office to respond quickly on-site and support recovery efforts.

In this evaluation, among 229 regional volunteer disaster prevention corps nationwide, the 'Nowon-gu Volunteer Disaster Prevention Corps' was recognized for excellent performance in ▲pre-disaster surveillance of risk areas ▲response activities to wind and flood damage and heatwaves ▲participation in the Safe Korea Training ▲public awareness campaigns, achieving 2nd place nationwide.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, "I appreciate the hard work of the Volunteer Disaster Prevention Corps who strive for the safety of our residents," and added, "I ask that residents continue to unite their efforts to establish a thorough safety net and strengthen the region’s autonomous disaster prevention functions so that Nowon can become a safe district."
