Conveying the Meaning of 'Life Sharing' to Family on a Regular Basis
A woman in her 60s who had been volunteering in meal service and helping neighbors for over 20 years passed away after saving four lives through organ donation.
On the 10th, the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency announced that on the 6th of last month, Jang Song-gu (67) donated his liver, kidney, and both eyes to four individuals at Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital. Jang also gave hope to 100 other patients through tissue donation.
On the 1st of last month, Jang suddenly vomited and collapsed at home. He was immediately transported to the emergency room but did not recover and ultimately passed away. His family recalled that Jang often spoke about 'sharing life,' and they chose organ donation to fulfill his wishes until the very end.
Jang was born in Daegu as the eldest daughter among two sons and two daughters. She was known for her calm and quiet personality and was a caring older sister who looked after her younger siblings in place of their parents. After marriage, she worked in the sewing industry and helped neighbors through volunteering and sponsorships, including over 20 years of free meal service volunteering.
Jang’s husband, Jo Je-du, said farewell, "Honey, we were together 24 hours a day, and you were always by my side. I took it for granted because you were always there wherever I stayed, but now that you are gone, I miss you so much and my heart aches. Thank you, and I love you."
Lee Sam-yeol, director of the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency, expressed gratitude, saying, "We extend our thanks to the deceased who practiced sharing life and to the bereaved family."
