According to the list of nominees for the 82nd Golden Globe Awards announced by the organizers on the 9th (local time), 'Squid Game' Season 2 was selected as a nominee for Best TV Series ? Drama. Other nominees in this category include the Japan-set drama 'Shogun,' which won the most awards at the Primetime Emmy Awards last September, Netflix's 'The Diplomat,' Apple TV+'s 'Slow Horses,' Prime Video's 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith,' and Peacock's 'Day of the Jackal.'

'Squid Game' Season 2 has not yet officially aired and was nominated in only one category, Best TV Drama Series, at this Golden Globe Awards. Local media such as Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter reported that it is unusual for a work that has not yet aired to be nominated. Typically, American broadcasters do not release new works at the end of the year, but Netflix decided to release 'Squid Game' Season 2 during the Christmas season, which led to the pre-airing work being nominated.

The Golden Globe Awards submission requirements stipulate that the work must air within the year and be provided to the organizers by November 4. It appears that Netflix previewed 'Squid Game' Season 2 to the awards jury in advance. The 82nd Golden Globe Awards ceremony will be held on January 5 next year.

Previously, 'Squid Game' Season 1 was nominated in three categories at the 79th Golden Globe Awards held in January 2022: Best TV Series, Best Actor (Lee Jung-jae), and Best Supporting Actor (Oh Young-soo). Among these, Oh Young-soo became the first Korean actor to receive the award. This was the first time a Korean film or drama was nominated in major Golden Globe categories. Bong Joon-ho’s film 'Parasite' in 2020 and Korean-American director Lee Isaac Chung’s film 'Minari' in 2021 were only nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and did not receive nominations for Best Picture or acting awards.

Meanwhile, the most nominated work at this 82nd ceremony is the film 'Emilia Perez,' which won the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Directed by French master Jacques Audiard, it received 10 nominations including Best Musical or Comedy, Best Foreign Language Film, and Best Actress.
