Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced on the 10th that 'The Gallery Hosu,' which opened on November 22, surpassed 30,000 cumulative visitors within two weeks of its opening.
'The Gallery Hosu' was built on a 1,400㎡ site next to the east lake of Seokchon Lake, with one basement floor and one above-ground floor. It features two exhibition halls, a rooftop, a machine room, and a parking lot. To commemorate the opening, a color-themed special exhibition and an exhibition of collections from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art's Art Bank have been ongoing since the 28th of last month.
As of the 8th, the district reported that a total of 31,800 people had visited the opening exhibition. On the first weekend after opening, the average daily number of visitors reached 4,000.
The accessibility connected to Seokchon Lake was cited as the biggest advantage by visitors. It was evaluated as providing a unique experience where not only residents but also tourists can comfortably enjoy a walk and view high-quality exhibitions for free.
There has also been a positive response to the resident docents. Residents with art-related experience and knowledge serve as docents, helping visitors understand the exhibitions every day at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The explanations tailored to the audience's level have increased repeat visits.
A resident living in Sincheon-dong said, "After listening to the explanation of the artwork, I felt that the artist's entire life was contained in a single piece, which made it even more interesting," and expressed plans to visit more until the exhibition ends.
The district will continue exhibition-related programs as special events to commemorate the opening. These will be held three times in December, every Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m.
A 'Conversation with the Artist' with participating artist Nam Da-hyun is scheduled for December 14. On the 21st and 28th, 'Contemporary Art Lectures' by active curators will be held. Curators Kim Jin-hyuk and Yoon Yul-ri, who are exhibition planners and art influencers, will lead the sessions.
Applications can be made via 'The Gallery Hosu' Instagram or by phone.
The district plans to hold various cultural events such as music performances and film screenings at 'The Gallery Hosu' in addition to art exhibitions in the future. Through this, they aim to introduce diversified art genres and lower the threshold of the art museum so that residents can always enjoy it without burden.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, "Thank you for your great interest and affection for 'The Gallery Hosu,'" and added, "We will strive to develop exhibitions and programs unique to Songpa and develop 'The Gallery Hosu' into an art museum with individuality and dignity."
The opening exhibition of 'The Gallery Hosu' will continue until February 28 of next year. It is open to everyone free of charge from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
