The Democratic Party to Elect New Floor Leader on the 12th Amid Calls for Choo Kyung-ho's Resignation

Candidate Registration Procedure Begins Tomorrow
Actual Voting Not Yet Decided
Possible Selection Without Vote Amid Pro-Yoon and Pro-Han Conflict

The People Power Party has decided to elect a new floor leader on the 12th. After Floor Leader Choo Kyung-ho expressed his intention to resign and opinions among the members did not align, the party has entered the official procedure to elect a new floor leader.

On the 9th, Kwak Kyu-taek, the chief spokesperson of the People Power Party, told reporters after a party meeting, "According to the party constitution and regulations, candidate registration must be completed two days before the election date. Therefore, we are announcing the floor leader election today and will begin accepting candidate registrations from 9 a.m. tomorrow."

However, Chief Spokesperson Kwak said, "While anyone can register, it has not been decided whether an actual vote will be held or if the floor leader will be selected by acclamation from among the registered candidates at the party meeting," adding, "Since candidate registration is a necessary procedure, it was decided to finalize the floor leader on Thursday, the earliest possible date."

After Floor Leader Choo reiterated his intention to resign, a strong confrontation arose between the pro-Han faction and the pro-Yoon faction within the People Power Party over the election of the new floor leader. The pro-Yoon faction demanded a vote of confidence for Floor Leader Choo, but the pro-Han faction strongly opposed it, ultimately deciding to elect a new leader. To minimize factional conflict, it is expected that candidates will be accepted first, but the leader will be selected by acclamation without a vote.

Chief Spokesperson Kwak stated, "Until the new floor leader is elected, the current senior deputy floor leader, Bae Jun-young, will continue to perform the role, as concluded at the party meeting," adding, "There have been various discussions on other matters, but no decisions have been made yet."
