Democratic Party: "President Yoon Seok-yeol's Military Command Authority Must Be Immediately Revoked" (Update)

Kim Min-seok, a Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, "The next target of the insurrection forces will be a shift in the situation caused by the declaration of martial law during wartime," and argued, "This issue cannot be fundamentally resolved without the immediate suspension of President Yoon Seok-yeol's duties." Kim is a figure who has mentioned the possibility of President Yoon declaring martial law since last September.

At a press briefing held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 8th, Kim hinted that an 'additional martial law' could occur following the emergency martial law incident on December 3rd. He said, "'Yoon Seok-yeol's insurrection' is spreading into the 'second insurrection jointly orchestrated by Han Dong-hoon, Han Duck-soo, and the prosecution." He continued, "The National Investigation Headquarters must immediately arrest and detain all individuals involved, including President Yoon, and promptly summon and investigate those involved in the State Council, such as Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, for their participation in the insurrection," adding, "The scale, reality, and whereabouts of the insurrection planning and cooperating forces have not been revealed at all, making this an extremely dangerous situation."

Kim stated, "All related agencies must put their full efforts into deterring attempts to declare wartime martial law through North Korean propaganda operations such as leaflet drops and fabricated shootings along the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)," and added, "The next target of the insurrection forces is a shift in the situation caused by the provocation of wartime martial law and the exercise of military command authority." He analyzed, "If the reckless actions of internal military forces, who fear punishment and severe penalties for insurrection, are not swiftly suppressed, a few fabricated gunshots along the DMZ could lead to a state of armed conflict between the North and South and the sudden activation of wartime martial law, leaving a lasting regret."

Furthermore, he said, "This issue cannot be fundamentally resolved without the immediate suspension of President Yoon's duties," and added, "Only by officially suspending President Yoon's military command authority can the Republic of Korea be safe."
