Started in 2012, Final Challenge of the World's 7 Continents Highest Peaks Expedition Team

About 40 people attended the event, including Kim Jang-ho, Mayor of Gumi, Park Gyo-sang, Chairman of the Gumi City Council, officials from the Gumi City Mountaineering Federation, and sponsors.
This challenge marks the resumption of the expedition about seven years after the 2017 Everest ascent. Gumi City aims to complete the seven-continent summit by climbing Vinson Massif, the highest peak in Antarctica, while wishing for the successful hosting of the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships to be held next year. Through this, the city plans to boost the pride of Gumi citizens and promote the city's status worldwide.
Gumi City and the Gumi City Mountaineering Federation established the 'World 7 Continents Highest Peaks Expedition Plan' in June 2011, the first among local governments nationwide, and began the challenge in 2012.
After successfully completing the ascents of the highest peaks on six continents with the 2017 Everest climb, they left some regret as they did not attempt the final goal, Vinson Massif in Antarctica.
The expedition team includes three members with extensive experience in climbing the highest peaks. They will depart on the 13th, enter Vinson Massif on the 18th, and aim to reach the summit on the 25th.
Expedition leader Jang Heon-mu expressed strong determination, saying, "I deeply thank Gumi City, the Sports Council, and sponsors for supporting the Antarctic expedition. We will definitely succeed in the ascent and return to let the world know about Gumi."
Mayor Kim Jang-ho encouraged the team, saying, "The expedition team's challenge to Antarctica symbolizes Gumi's pride and spirit of challenge. I hope the members safely complete the ascent and return to elevate Gumi's status worldwide."
At the send-off ceremony, a business agreement ceremony with TBC was also held. TBC plans to produce a documentary recording the Antarctic ascent process and broadcast it in May next year, coinciding with the Asian Athletics Championships.
