Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education under the 'Jeong Geun-sik System' reorganizes to strengthen student-tailored and innovative education support

Organizational Restructuring to Be Implemented on January 1 Next Year

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, which has seen a change in superintendent for the first time in 10 years, will undergo a major organizational restructuring.

On the 8th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it will implement an organizational restructuring effective January 1 of next year. This restructuring is based on three principles: ▲ Cooperation and Communication ▲ Inclusion and Safety ▲ Efficiency and Focus, aimed at responding to changes in the educational environment and resolving overlapping tasks between departments.

The departments are as follows: ▲ Policy Planning Office ▲ Safety General Affairs Office ▲ Student Customized Support Office (formerly Participation Cooperation Office) ▲ Educational Cooperation Office (formerly External Cooperation Office) ▲ Creative Future Education Division (formerly Digital and Innovative Future Education Division) ▲ Student Competency and Innovative Education Division (formerly Teaching and Learning and Basic Academic Support Division) ▲ Democratic Citizenship Education Division (formerly Democratic Citizenship Life Education Division), totaling seven departments.

The Student Customized Support Office has reorganized its responsibilities to provide substantial support tailored to the individual characteristics and situations of students. Accordingly, it will take over tasks previously handled by the 'Democratic Citizenship Life Education Division,' such as alternative education, out-of-school youth, multicultural and North Korean defector students.

The Educational Cooperation Office plans to strengthen cooperation with the National Assembly, the City Council, as well as parents and citizens, expanding the scope and range of collaboration to foster a culture of cooperation and empathy.

The Student Competency and Innovative Education Division will take over the existing 'Innovative Education' tasks and further develop and deepen innovative education through mutual cooperation with basic academic skills, actively responding to educational disparities.

The Creative Future Education Division has established a foundation to further strengthen future competencies of creativity and collaboration, including AI-based personalized education and digital teaching and learning support.

The Democratic Citizenship Education Division plans to unify and intensively support student autonomy, history, unification, Dokdo, and global citizenship education, which were previously scattered across various departments.

To reduce administrative workload at schools and strengthen support for school sites, a 'School Work Improvement Team' will be newly established within the Policy Planning Office. Reflecting the internal and external interest and importance of school route safety, dedicated teams for 'School Safety' and 'School Route Safety Management' will be newly established within the Safety General Affairs Office to systematically manage and support the prevention of school safety accidents and school route safety.

Additionally, considering the appropriate scope of control for department heads and balance of duties, the Creative Future Education Division will be reorganized from 7 teams to 6 teams, and the Democratic Citizenship Education Division from 8 teams to 6 teams.
