"Saying they will implement a responsible prime minister system is 'seat greed'"

The Democratic Party of Korea has firmly stated that it will accept no alternatives other than the "immediate resignation" of President Yoon Seok-yeol, ahead of his anticipated national address. Kim Min-seok, a Supreme Council member, proposed to senior members of the People Power Party to "have a debate" regarding whether there are any alternatives besides President Yoon's resignation or impeachment.

Cho Seung-rae, the chief spokesperson, announced the party's position at the National Assembly on the morning of the 7th, saying, "We are announcing the Democratic Party's stance regarding President Yoon's address," and added, "We cannot accept any alternatives that allow him to remain in office." He continued, "If this is rejected, the National Assembly will impeach President Yoon," and stated, "We cannot tolerate a traitor to the nation continuing to serve as president." Furthermore, he said, "The rebellion caused by President Yoon is still ongoing, and second and third martial law attempts could happen at any time."

At the press briefing that day, Supreme Council member Kim mentioned People Power Party lawmakers Kwon Seong-dong, Kwon Young-se, Na Kyung-won, and Yoon Sang-hyun, urging, "Let's have a public debate before the impeachment vote." He said, "So-called senior members of the People Power Party continue to oppose impeachment while engaging in persuasion and deception," and demanded, "Reveal your faces and names." He added, "If there are four such senior members, let's have a 4-on-4 debate; if five, then 5-on-5, in front of the public."

Kim stated that through the debate, they should determine the constitutionality of the December 3 emergency martial law incident and whether it constitutes treason, examine whether alternatives such as a responsible prime minister or a national unity cabinet are effective besides impeachment, and discuss whether to allow free votes for lawmakers on the impeachment motion against President Yoon. He criticized, "If they obstruct President Yoon's resignation or impeachment without these discussions, what else do they want besides their 'seat ambition' to become the responsible prime minister?"

The National Assembly is scheduled to vote on the impeachment motion against President Yoon at 5 p.m. that day.
