Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju presented the major achievements of the past year and the future vision for Yangju during the 372nd regular session of the Yangju City Council on the 5th, expressing his determination to "make Yangju leap forward together with its citizens."

Mayor Kang emphasized that Yangju is establishing itself as a central city in northern Gyeonggi by laying the foundation for growth in all areas including roads, transportation, education, and culture.

In particular, he announced that the construction of stations for the Dobongsan?Okjeong section of Subway Line 7 is progressing smoothly with the goal of opening in 2027, and the extension project of the Okjeong?Pocheon metropolitan railway is also being promoted with a target completion in 2030. The GTX-C line has been progressing smoothly since its groundbreaking ceremony earlier this year, and the development projects of the Eunnam General Industrial Complex, which will become the industrial and economic hub of northern Gyeonggi, and the Yangju Technovalley, an advanced R&D complex, are also gaining momentum.

The city is finalizing the site and conducting feasibility studies for the joint comprehensive funeral facility project in Yangju, which is being promoted together with six local governments in northeastern Gyeonggi this year. In February, Yangju was selected as a pilot area for the education development special zone, laying the foundation to become the educational center of northern Gyeonggi. Additionally, the city has achieved various results to expand living infrastructure and enhance citizen convenience, including being selected as the target site for an innovative public medical center in northeastern Gyeonggi, the lifting of military facility protection zones, UNICEF Child-Friendly City certification, and the opening of the Gyohoe Line and the Paju?Yangju section of the Second Capital Area Circular Expressway.

Mayor Kang Su-hyun stated that Yangju, which recorded the highest population growth rate nationwide and the third highest birth rate last year through new town development and expansion of living infrastructure, will make 2025 a year to firmly realize "Yangju leaping forward with its citizens" based on five major administrative philosophies?citizens, communication, fairness, change, and leap?and four core strategies?efficiency, intensification, growth, and communication?as it enters the era of a population of 300,000.

Accordingly, the city plans to focus on expanding transportation networks and completing major investment projects to meet administrative demands arising from new town development and population inflow.

It announced plans to complete the △Gyeonggi Dreamtle Life SOC Complex Project △National Sports Center for the Disabled △Life Resource Recovery Center installation project, and to promote the expansion of the Okjeong and Nambang sewage treatment facilities, the construction of the Okjeong 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center, and the Deokjeong Urban Regeneration New Deal Project in response to population growth and various developments, requesting cooperation from the council regarding the issuance of local bonds.

Mayor Kang Su-hyun explained that, as this is a critical time for efficient budget management due to deteriorating revenue conditions caused by the economic downturn and increased welfare and national project budgets, the existing projects have been thoroughly reviewed, waste factors eliminated, and the budget strategically organized.

Mayor Kang said, “Cooperation and support from the city council are essential to create changes that all citizens can feel,” adding, “We will do our best to make Yangju a premium city where everyone wants to live.”
