Speaker of the National Assembly Woo Won-sik stated on the 6th, "If President Yoon Seok-yeol plans to visit the National Assembly, I request that it be postponed."
On the same day, Woo made an urgent statement at the National Assembly, saying, "There have been speculative reports about the President's visit to the National Assembly causing confusion, so I will clarify our position first," and added, "We have not been contacted regarding the President's visit."
He continued, "However, even if the visit takes place, security-related consultations must come first," and said, "Without prior consultation on the purpose of the visit and security, it is difficult to guarantee the President's safety."
Speaker Woo also expressed the National Assembly's stance on the current state of emergency.
He said, "The President's declaration of a state of emergency denies history and wounds the pride of the people," adding, "A second state of emergency cannot and will not be tolerated." Woo stated, "All public officials should faithfully uphold the Constitution in their respective positions," and emphasized, "The military is the people's army, and the police must protect the people." He concluded, "I ask the citizens to trust the National Assembly and calmly observe the situation," and said, "The National Assembly will take the lead in protecting the people and democracy."
