The certificate awarding ceremony held at Gapyeong County Office on the 5th was attended by Seo Tae-won, Governor of Gapyeong-gun, and Lee Ki-heon, Director of the Korea Institute of Public Administration, among others. The Korea Institute of Public Administration stated upon awarding the certificate, “Gapyeong-gun was evaluated to have achieved outstanding results in enhancing regional competitiveness and developing local autonomy through the practice of advanced administration, according to the analysis of the 29th Korean Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index for 2024.”
The ceremony was based on the analysis results of the 29th Korean Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index (KLCI) for 2024, announced last November. Gapyeong-gun ranked first nationwide in the management activities category among county-level local governments, rising one step from second place last year.
The Korean Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index is a prestigious evaluation indicator that has measured local autonomy competitiveness annually since 1996, targeting 226 local governments nationwide using official government statistics (80 indicators, 250 data points).
Governor Seo Tae-won said, “I consider this achievement meaningful as it recognizes that the policies Gapyeong-gun has pursued with the goal of improving residents’ quality of life are gradually showing effects,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to enhance citizen services through ‘active administration’ and to promote sustainable development of Gapyeong-gun.”
