On the 6th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it ranked first nationwide in this year's Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps evaluation conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
This evaluation was implemented to comprehensively analyze the disaster prevention, response, and recovery activities of autonomous disaster prevention corps across the country, aiming to spread a culture of safety and enhance systematic disaster management capabilities.
Icheon City achieved the highest score by recording excellent results in all categories, including flood and heatwave response activities, pre-inspection of hazardous areas, promotion of citizen action guidelines, completion of specialized training, and budget support.
Kim Kyung-hee, Mayor of Icheon City, emphasized, "This nationwide first-place achievement is a valuable result accomplished together by all citizens, including the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps," adding, "In a situation where natural disasters are becoming increasingly severe due to climate change, the role of the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps is more important than ever."
The city plans to continue strengthening cooperation with the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps to establish a systematic disaster management system.
