The event was held with 29 graduates in attendance and proceeded in the order of a commemorative lecture by the educational institution (growing aquatic plants), report on the education operation process, awarding of citizen gardener certificates, greetings, and commemorative photo session.

In particular, the atmosphere of the event was greatly enhanced by watching videos showcasing the various activities of citizen gardeners and exhibiting their works.

Additionally, a meaningful occasion was arranged where senior citizen gardeners prepared rice cakes and beverages, reminiscent of the traditional book street culture, to celebrate the junior citizen gardeners who completed eight months of training and to share gratitude for learning.

This year’s citizen gardener training course was entrusted to Sahmyook University and conducted in two parts: the basic course (April to July) in the first half and the advanced course (August to December) in the second half. Graduates who completed both courses were awarded the Guri Citizen Gardener certificate.

Over the past eight months and 120 hours, the graduates received basic theory and practical training in gardening fields such as the growth environment of garden plants, planting and management techniques, and garden design, acquiring specialized knowledge in gardening. They plan to engage in various activities to spread garden culture, including managing over 80 gardens established throughout the city, creating new gardens, and serving as instructors for gardening education programs.

Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri said, “I congratulate all graduates certified as Guri Citizen Gardeners. Gardens serve as places for citizens’ relaxation and play an important role in achieving carbon neutrality and responding to climate change. I hope you will actively lead the expansion of the city’s garden culture in the future.”

Meanwhile, the number of Guri Citizen Gardeners has expanded to a total of 95, starting with 19 in 2021, 12 in 2022, and 12 in 2023, including 23 Gyeonggi Province certified citizen gardeners.
