This presentation meeting was organized to invite experts from various fields to discuss sustainable development plans for universities and cities and to establish a new vision for the city.

The theme of this presentation meeting was ‘Education-Centered Growth City,’ featuring a lecture by Professor Eom Mun-young of Seoul National University titled ‘Practical Strategies and Development Directions for Education Development Special Zones,’ along with presentations of local case studies and discussions.

Choi Hee-jin, Director of Lifelong Education, who presented a local case study, introduced the challenges and achievements of Paju City’s Education Development Special Zone and presented specific examples of projects and field-centered practical measures.

In the subsequent discussion, issues arising during the implementation of education development special zones by region and policy implications were discussed, emphasizing the importance of establishing education models tailored to local characteristics and building cooperative systems for the successful promotion of education development special zone projects.

Director Choi Hee-jin stated, “Paju is leading student-centered education by investing more budget than any other city or county,” and added, “We will strive to successfully promote the pilot project of the Education Development Special Zone, which will be responsible for regional balanced development, and to spread excellent cases of the pilot project, reflecting the city’s will and efforts.”

Paju City was designated as the second pilot area for the Education Development Special Zone in July and is currently carrying out a project with a special grant of 1.145 billion KRW from the Ministry of Education in 2024 in collaboration with the Paju Office of Education.
