Operation of Heavy Equipment Construction Machinery Operator License Course for Ages 50 to 75
Taean County in South Chungcheong Province is launching reemployment training to support the "new middle-aged retirees" in designing the second chapter of their lives.
The county announced that it held an orientation session on the 5th at the county office's main auditorium, attended by 40 trainees and county officials, to kick off a training program for local residents aged 50 to 75 who are currently unemployed. The program aims to help them obtain licenses for operating construction machinery such as forklifts and excavators.
This training is intended to support the new middle-aged in preparing for the next stage of life. According to a survey conducted in February among potential trainees, 35.8% expressed a preference for training in obtaining construction machinery operator licenses. As a result, following the first round of training (with 48 participants completing the course) last month, the county is now conducting this second round.
The 40 trainees will receive a total of 12 hours of instruction (6 hours of theory and 6 hours of practical training) from December 7 to 24 at a heavy equipment driving school located in Seosan. The county will cover the full tuition for those who complete the training.
With the increasing use of heavy equipment at various worksites, this licensing course is expected to be highly beneficial. The county also plans to actively support trainees in finding employment after they obtain their licenses.
A county official stated, "We prepared this training to help the new middle-aged, who are struggling due to the economic downturn and job shortages, to reestablish themselves as healthy members of society," adding, "We will continue to operate a variety of educational programs to promote self-reliance and improve the quality of life for our residents."
