As the nationwide 'resignation movement' of the people spreads due to President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration of martial law, political circles and civic groups in the Gwangju area are preparing to take their struggle to Seoul.

According to the Gwangju City Council on the 6th, the council has canceled overseas training and changed its agenda to focus public opinion on the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol.

Council members canceled all official overseas business trips originally scheduled after the December regular session, including a 3-night, 4-day visit to Luoyang City, a friendly exchange city in China, as well as a 3-night, 5-day visit to Taiwan for benchmarking disability welfare and cultural tourism policies.

They also decided not to participate in the 8-night, 10-day trip to the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, USA, scheduled for early January next year, and canceled the 8-night, 10-day training trip to Germany and the Czech Republic planned for mid-January to observe the future car industry and urban regeneration policies in Europe. Earlier, Democratic Party members of the Gwangju City Council postponed their agenda and attended a National Assembly rally on the 4th following the martial law situation.

Democratic Party-affiliated Gwangju city council members are also expected to participate in the impeachment rally held at the National Assembly for 1 night and 2 days on the 6th and 7th.

Gwangju civic groups have also decided to participate in a rally in downtown Seoul on the afternoon of the 7th, when the National Assembly is scheduled to vote on the impeachment motion.

The Gwangju Emergency Action for the Resignation of the Yoon Seok-yeol Regime plans to join the '3rd General Rally and Nationwide Assembly for the Resignation of the Yoon Seok-yeol Regime' held at Gwanghwamun Square. About 700 members of civic groups will mobilize 19 large buses to join the rally in Seoul.

Civilians who cannot participate in the Seoul rally plan to continue their protest rally while monitoring the impeachment vote status at the 5·18 Democracy Square in Dong-gu, Gwangju.

Meanwhile, the impeachment motion proposed by the six opposition parties is scheduled to be voted on in the plenary session of the National Assembly around 7 p.m. on the 7th. The presidential impeachment motion requires the consent of more than 200 members of the National Assembly to be passed.
