Southeast Region Technology Commercialization Cooperation Agencies Performance Exchange Meeting, Strengthening Partnerships
'Technology Commercialization Festival' Subsidiaries, Investee Companies, and Investment Institutions Gather in One Place
Busan National University Technology Holdings (CEO Kang Jeong-eun, Director of Industry-Academic Cooperation) held the ‘2024 PNU Biz Partners Day’ event on the afternoon of the 5th at the Paradise Hotel Grand Ballroom to honor the efforts of companies and partner institutions who have worked hard throughout the year for technology commercialization in the southeastern region and to further strengthen future bonds.
To celebrate the 8th edition of this event, over 180 attendees including representatives from Busan City, Busan Technopark, KDB Industrial Bank, regional partner universities, and subsidiaries and investee companies of partner institutions participated.
This year, commemorating the selection of a new fund worth 13.6 billion KRW (S-PNU Busan Regional Innovation Investment Association), a meeting platform was created between companies and private investment institutions by utilizing the investment networks held by partner institutions to support the continuous growth of university technology-based startups.
The event began with an opening address by Kang Jeong-eun, CEO of Busan National University Technology Holdings, followed by △PNU Best Partner Ceremony △Story Refrigerator △PNU Funding Ceremony △Celebratory Performance △and a roundtable discussion.
The ‘PNU Best Partner Ceremony,’ divided into two parts, was organized to commemorate the establishment of a new subsidiary by Busan National University Technology Holdings and to express gratitude to internal and external stakeholders who have contributed to the technology commercialization of Busan National University.
In the first part, the ceremony started with the plaque presentation for the 38th subsidiary (Elpower), followed by awards of appreciation for outstanding researcher (Professor Kang Nam-hyun, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, PNU), outstanding professional review committee member (CEO Kim Geon-woo, Techria), and outstanding coordinator committee member (Team Leader Jeon Su-beom, Korea Institute of Robot Convergence).
In the second part, awards of appreciation were sequentially presented to outstanding patent cooperation institution (Patent Corporation Cheonji), outstanding technology commercialization cooperation institution (Linkers Venture Innovation Institute), outstanding investment cooperation institution (T-Investment), outstanding technology transfer company (SDT), and outstanding subsidiary (10th subsidiary Taumedical).
This year, unlike previous events, ‘Story Refrigerator’ and ‘Celebratory Performance’ were newly planned to express gratitude for the hard work of practitioners who sweat daily for successful technology commercialization.
‘Story Refrigerator’ provided an opportunity for deep conversations by collecting stories from partner institution representatives in advance and selecting them on-site to share the difficulties and challenges faced by practitioners, as well as compliments and thanks to colleagues.
‘Celebratory Performance’ was a stage prepared by internal members of Busan National University Technology Holdings, featuring a music video created by filming the usual work scenes of partner institution representatives, sharing a touching moment together.
Kang Jeong-eun, CEO of the partner institution (Director of Industry-Academic Cooperation at PNU, Professor of Urban Engineering), said, “Through this event, I wanted to offer everyone who had a difficult year in business a moment to pause, reflect, and think together about ‘It was tough, but we have grown this much.’ I will strive to support technology startup companies in overcoming challenging moments and growing in various ways.”
Partner institutions have actively operated as TIPS operators and accelerators by supporting subsidiaries and investee companies to run their businesses smoothly through promotion and marketing, business model advancement, direct investment, and follow-up investment linkage.
In 2025, they plan to focus on discovering and supporting the growth of promising deep-tech university technology-based startups to revitalize the stagnant southeastern region.
