Development of Korea's First Immersive Virtual Training Simulator for LNG Bunkering Ships
Park Sang-gyu, CEO of Newgen INS Co., Ltd. and a combined master's and doctoral student in the Department of IT Convergence Applied Engineering at Pukyong National University, received the Excellence Award in the Industrial Promotion category of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' '2024 Marine Science and Technology Awards.'
At the awards ceremony held on November 26 at the FKI Tower in Yeouido, Seoul, Park was recognized for his development of the "Virtual Training Simulator for LNG Bunkering Ship Operators Linking 3D Models and Process Models."
The simulator he developed is expected to have an import substitution effect through localization, and it is highly evaluated for its economic and social ripple effects, such as improving digital literacy through digital transformation (DX). It is anticipated to significantly contribute to the advancement of eco-friendly technology, enhancement of industrial stability, and job creation.
In his acceptance speech, CEO Park said, "Thanks to the active support of my school and advisor, I was able to achieve this result. I will do my best to develop technologies that can strengthen the competitiveness of domestic industries."
CEO Park plans to continue research integrating various artificial intelligence technologies using generative AI in XR content and metaverse environments utilizing Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies.
Pukyong National University plans to further strengthen its industry-academia cooperation network and take the lead in digital transformation and professional workforce development in the marine industry sector, building on this award.
