Since establishing their international sister city relationship in October 1994, the two cities have maintained close exchanges over a long period; however, interactions were temporarily suspended due to COVID-19. In October, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their sister city relationship, Changwon visited Ma'anshan to reopen the channels of exchange. This visit was a friendly return visit from Ma'anshan City, marking the first visit by the Ma'anshan mayor in 20 years since 2005.

On the 5th, the Ma'anshan delegation visiting Changwon toured the Changwon Industry Promotion Agency and discussed future cooperation plans linked with Ma'anshan’s Commerce Bureau, Investment Promotion Center, and Federation of Industry and Commerce. They also visited Hyundai Precision, a strong small and medium enterprise in Changwon, explored the Good Day Museum, and toured Changwon’s House.

Mayor Geobin said, “I am pleased to visit Changwon, a friend for 30 years, and I thank Changwon for the warm hospitality. I hope that through continuous exchanges, both cities will continue to develop further.”

Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, “The exchanges between the two cities, which were suspended due to COVID-19, have become a meaningful year with mutual visits marking the 30th anniversary of the international sister city relationship. Let us use this visit as an opportunity to further activate exchanges and work together to grow as global partners.”

Meanwhile, Ma'anshan City, with a population of 2.19 million and an area of 4,049㎢, is the economic center of Anhui Province. It has attracted significant investment due to its manufacturing infrastructure expanded by the steel industry and its strategic transportation location. Ma'anshan leads Anhui Province in annual manufacturing investment and per capita GDP. Other major industries include smart manufacturing, eco-friendly energy, special vehicles, and green food.
