Gyeonggi-do to Provide Additional 37.6 Billion KRW Support for Heavy Snow Damage... Total 67.75 Billion KRW

Gyeonggi Province will provide an additional 37.6 billion KRW to recover from the heavy snow damage. As a result, the total heavy snow support fund from Gyeonggi Province will increase to 67.75 billion KRW, including the existing 30.15 billion KRW.

On the 6th, Kim Seong-jung, the First Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province, held a press conference on the "Heavy Snow-related Livelihood Recovery Measures" at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office in Suwon, stating, "On the 2nd, when Governor Kim Dong-yeon visited the damage sites in Anseong and Pyeongtaek, he promised to 'recover the damage quickly through procedures and methods beyond the usual.' The additional support was decided as a concrete implementation plan of that promise."

Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province will provide an additional 37.6 billion KRW in total, including 3 billion KRW from the Disaster Management Fund, 30 billion KRW from the Disaster Relief Fund, 3 billion KRW from contingency funds, and 1.6 billion KRW from special adjustment grants, to recover damages in the private sector such as small business owners, livestock farms, and farmers, who suffered greater damage than public facilities.

First, Gyeonggi Province will provide 30 billion KRW in emergency living stabilization funds to small business owners who suffered the greatest damage from the heavy snow. In this case, affected small business owners will receive up to 10 million KRW in emergency living stabilization funds.

Previously, small business owners affected by disasters only received 3 million KRW in disaster support funds and 2 million KRW from the provincial disaster relief fund.

Gyeonggi Province decided to provide additional emergency living stabilization funds due to numerous occurrences of facility collapses, damage to inventory and materials caused by this heavy snow, and expected losses from business interruptions until recovery.

Gyeonggi Province will use 3 billion KRW from the Disaster Management Fund for the demolition of collapsed vinyl greenhouses and livestock facilities, as well as for the disposal of disaster waste. This 3 billion KRW is additional funding to the 7.35 billion KRW Disaster Management Fund announced last week. This measure aims to prevent secondary damage such as further collapses and to promptly restore disaster sites to resume livestock and farming activities.

Additionally, 5 billion KRW has been allocated to support livestock farms for the demolition of collapsed barns, rescue of isolated livestock, and disposal of deceased animals.

Gyeonggi Province will also provide an additional 1.6 billion KRW in special adjustment grants to restore public facilities damaged by the heavy snow, such as agricultural and marine product markets and sports facilities.

Separately, Gyeonggi Province plans to request the central government to promptly declare a special disaster area.

Kim Seong-jung, the First Deputy Governor, explained, "An unprecedented damage exceeding several hundred billion KRW occurred in Gyeonggi Province due to the first heavy snow in November in 117 years. Unfortunately, livestock farms, farmers, and small business owners, who are already facing severe economic difficulties due to the economic downturn, have suffered the greatest damage, deepening their distress."

He continued, "To quickly overcome this reality, immediate and practical support is essential. We urge the central government to prioritize declaring a special disaster area even before the final damage amount is confirmed, so that residents in the affected areas can receive additional disaster support funds, tax reductions, and other assistance."
