Fire equipment specialist Paratech announced on the 6th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with KCL (Korea Conformity Laboratories) to develop sprinkler technology. The signing ceremony was attended by key officials including Kim Tae-han, Director of Paratech, Shin Dong-gi, Head of KCL Disaster and Fire Prevention Division, and Park Young-seop, Director of KCL Advanced Disaster Prevention Center.
This MOU aims to develop advanced technologies for the domestic secondary battery fire safety industry and strengthen international competitiveness. To achieve this, both companies plan to collaborate on ▲sprinkler head research and development ▲UL certification testing for overseas standards ▲new development of ESS-dedicated sprinkler heads using KCL’s testing facilities. Additionally, Paratech will support the establishment of testing equipment related to KCL’s UL199 (sprinkler head) certification.
Paratech, which owns its own water spray testing facilities, has continuously developed technology to offer a product lineup of high-flow sprinklers such as K160 and ESFR, and has succeeded in proving its technological capabilities through international certifications. Paratech was the fifth company worldwide to obtain FM (Factory Mutual) certification, a global fire product performance certification, for the K160. The ESFR is the first early fire suppression sprinkler in Korea.
A Paratech representative stated, “As the government strengthens sprinkler fire suppression systems to prevent electric vehicle fires, we plan to expand our sprinkler business and focus on new product research and development through this MOU. Using this MOU as a turning point, we will enhance our sprinkler technology competitiveness to respond to secondary battery fires and accelerate our domestic and international market penetration.”
KCL emphasized the importance of establishing a systematic lithium battery fire response system and fire suppression facility installation at the ‘Industrial Site Lithium Battery Fire and Response Policy Forum’ held last August. Paratech plans to accelerate sprinkler research and development through cooperation with KCL and solidify its position as a leading company in lithium battery fire response technology.
