On the 5th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a message distributed to reporters, "Since the announcement of martial law, the government has been maintaining close communication at various levels between Korea and the United States."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "The U.S. side has expressed support for Korea's democracy and the strong Korea-U.S. alliance through statements by the Secretary of State and others, and has conveyed that it is communicating closely with Korea. This is evaluated as an effort to clearly reaffirm the U.S.'s ironclad commitment to the Korea-U.S. alliance."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added, "The government will continue to strive to ensure that the Korea-U.S. alliance develops steadily through ongoing communication."
Earlier, the government also expressed a similar stance regarding Kurt Campbell, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, who criticized President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration of martial law as a "badly misjudged" decision. In response, Lee Jae-woong, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explained, "Necessary communication is taking place at various levels between Korea and the United States."
