The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 5th that Gangbuk Samsung Hospital and Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital have been selected as the 5th participating institutions in the tertiary general hospital restructuring support project. This brings the total to 44 out of 47 tertiary general hospitals nationwide.
These hospitals will increase the proportion of severe care to 70% and reduce general beds by up to about 15%. Gangbuk Samsung Hospital will reduce its existing 623 general beds to 561, and Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital will decrease from 633 to 602 beds.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare stated that it will continue to promote medical reform, including the restructuring of tertiary general hospitals. A ministry official said, "We will not stop at restructuring tertiary general hospitals but will prepare measures to strengthen regional secondary hospitals and primary care to complete the normalization of the medical delivery system."
