Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung has ordered the prosecution to directly investigate the case filed against President Yoon Seok-yeol regarding the declaration of martial law.
According to the legal community on the 5th, Prosecutor General Shim concluded that the prosecution can initiate an investigation into the charges of insurrection and abuse of authority against President Yoon, and assigned the case to the Public Investigation Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Chan-gyu).
The prosecution plans to investigate the case directly without transferring it to the police.
The Labor Party, Green Party, and Justice Party filed a complaint with the prosecution the previous day, accusing President Yoon, former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun, and Martial Law Commander Park An-su (Chief of Staff of the Army) of insurrection under the Criminal Act.
The Innovation Party and others filed a complaint with the National Investigation Headquarters the previous day, accusing President Yoon, former Minister Kim, Commander Park, and Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min of insurrection charges and others.
