Leading Efforts to Resolve Blood Supply Shortage and Practice Neighborly Love

Gwangju Nam-gu Office General Affairs Division officer Ko Young-mi (58) has been honored with the grand prize of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s ‘48th Cheongbaek Volunteer Award’.
According to Nam-gu on the 5th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety selects recipients of the ‘Cheongbaek Volunteer Award’ by conducting evaluations of public officials recommended by citizens who have served with integrity on the front lines of local administration and dedicated themselves to the development of local communities.
Officer Ko, who entered public service in 1988, became the recipient of the Cheongbaek Volunteer Award by leading the development of local administration and public service with a strong sense of duty.
While working in the Local Economic Circulation Division, she demonstrated creativity by establishing a local food system for producers and consumers. She pioneered a win-win cooperation model with the local food direct sales stores involving three local governments?Nam-gu, Naju-si, and Hwasun-gun?for the first time nationwide, promoting social contribution activities through sharing agricultural products as well as increasing farm income.
Additionally, while serving as the head of Bongseon 1-dong, she discovered village philanthropists to support vulnerable groups and cared for residents in welfare blind spots who were not reached by administrative support. She also operated ‘Housewarming Day’ for neighbors in need of care, such as single-person households and single-parent families, actively engaging in on-site communication.
Furthermore, Officer Ko took the lead in alleviating the national blood supply shortage by donating blood 39 times and set an example of neighborly love by continuously donating to 16 organizations, including UNICEF.
Officer Ko said, “While working as a public official, I always did my best from the residents’ perspective, which led to receiving such a great award,” and added, “I will continue to quietly fulfill my role as a public official and strive to contribute greatly to our neighbors and the development of the local community.”
