Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States who had avoided contact with mainstream media, is scheduled to appear on a local current affairs program this weekend.

The Hill, a U.S. political media outlet, reported on the 4th (local time) that Trump plans to appear on NBC News' Sunday current affairs program "Meet the Press" for an interview.

The interview will be recorded on Friday the 6th and broadcast at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday the 8th. NBC stated that it plans to release highlights before airing the full recording.

This will be the first time Trump has appeared on a major mainstream broadcaster for an interview since winning the presidential election. During the election period, Trump had several interviews with Fox News and conservative-leaning podcasts, but rarely with mainstream media.

Kristen Welker has been selected as the interviewer. Welker is known for moderating the TV debate between Trump and President Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential election. Before the debate, she was criticized for having a biased view against Trump, but after the debate, the atmosphere shifted and she received favorable evaluations.

NBC explained that Trump also interviewed with Welker in September last year, noting that the interview was the only roundtable-style broadcast interview Trump had during the election period. Welker, who previously served as an NBC White House correspondent, has been in charge of the "Meet the Press" program since September last year.
