70th Anniversary Celebration
Reevaluating the Role of Accountants with a Focus on Sustainability
The Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants announced on the 5th that it will hold a seminar titled ‘The Role of CPAs in Sustainability and Strategies to Enhance Competitiveness’ at the Grand InterContinental Parnas Hotel in Seoul on the 11th to commemorate its 70th anniversary.
This seminar is an opportunity to discuss the roles that CPAs must perform in the era of sustainability. Domestic and international sustainability experts and stakeholders will participate.
Jean Bouquot, President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), will deliver the keynote speech titled ‘Empowering Change for Sustainability,’ providing an international perspective on the role of CPAs. Following this, there will be presentations on ▲The Development and Latest Trends in Sustainability Management and Disclosure (Kwon Mi-yeop, Partner at Samil PwC) ▲Trends in Establishing Sustainability Certification and Ethical Standards (Hwang Geun-sik, Director at the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants) ▲Measures to Secure the Expertise of Sustainability Certifiers (Jeon Gyu-an, Professor at Soongsil University).
In the comprehensive discussion session, chaired by Professor Park Jong-sung of Sookmyung Women’s University, participants including Choi Ji-hyun, Head of the Fair Market Division at the Financial Services Commission; Kang Kyung-jin, Executive Director of the Korea Listed Companies Association; Kwon Seong-sik, Center Director at the Korean Standards Association; Kwon Se-won, Professor at Ewha Womans University; Lee Dong-seop, Director at the National Pension Service; Lee In-hyung, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Capital Market Institute; and Hwang Jeong-hwan, Partner at Samjong KPMG, will discuss ways to strengthen the competitiveness of CPAs in the sustainability disclosure and certification ecosystem.
Choi Un-yeol, President of the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants, said, “As the demand for sustainability grows, we have organized this seminar to reexamine the roles and responsibilities of CPAs. We hope it will serve as a foundation for the accounting industry and our society to achieve sustainable development together.”
