Pocheon City officially launched the Gyeonggi-do Type Public-Private Partnership Vacant House Maintenance project in June after signing a business agreement with Gyeonggi Province. The project partner, KMS Volunteer Group, is a volunteer organization composed of about 50 retired non-commissioned officers from Pocheon City.
This project was carried out by selecting vacant houses in densely populated old residential areas in the city based on a vacant house survey conducted by Pocheon City. With the consent of the owners, the vacant houses were demolished, and the sites were utilized as public land for three years.
Through the project, a vacant house located in a residential area in front of the village hall in Sineup 7-dong was demolished, and a village resting area and green space were created. The created resting area will be open for three years and used as a space for rest and leisure for local residents.
In addition, the KMS Volunteer Group participated in various tasks during the creation of the village resting area, such as installing fences, creating flower beds, and planting azaleas, cooperating actively.
A Pocheon City official said, “Through this project, we aimed to solve the vacant house problem and support citizens to live in a pleasant environment,” adding, “We will continue to promote the vacant house maintenance project to improve the local residential environment and strengthen resident welfare.”
Meanwhile, besides the Gyeonggi-do vacant house maintenance project, Pocheon City is also promoting its own vacant house maintenance projects. Vacant houses located in Sineup-dong and Tandong-ri, Gwanin-myeon will be demolished, and parking lots will be created on the sites and opened to residents.
