Busan's Gijang-gun was recently recognized for its outstanding performance in the field of urban agriculture and was selected as the best institution in the '2024 Urban Agriculture Promotion Policy Evaluation' hosted by Busan City.
This evaluation was conducted by Busan City to review the overall implementation of urban agriculture projects across 16 districts and counties, aiming to revitalize urban agriculture through the discovery of new policies and sharing of best practices.
The evaluation criteria consisted of 18 items across five categories: ▲Establishment of a foundation for urban agriculture activation ▲Reflection of Busan City and government policies ▲Awards, education, and publicity achievements ▲Urban agriculture events in districts/counties ▲Special policies and best practices. Gijang-gun achieved high scores in most categories, resulting in its selection as the best institution.
In particular, Gijang-gun received high praise for producing tangible results in various urban agriculture areas, including ▲the creation of Cheolma Urban Agriculture Park ▲operation of Gijang-gun Children's Public Garden ▲management of the Rural Experience Tourism Support Center ▲and the establishment of practical urban agriculture spaces in daily life.
Jeong Jong-bok, the county governor, stated, “The upcoming Cheolma Urban Agriculture Park will be a turning point that dramatically expands opportunities for residents to participate in urban agriculture,” adding, “We will implement various urban agriculture activation policies directly linked to improving the quality of life for our residents.”
