According to the city, it has conducted surveys targeting citizens and merchants, held small-scale briefings and citizen briefings, and set six practical goals for revitalizing Yeoju City's original downtown by reflecting various opinions.
The six practical goals are 'Creating a symbolic street of Yeoju,' 'Enhancing attractiveness by utilizing the riverside such as Namhan River Terrace,' 'Investing in landscapes visible from outside the original downtown and participatory programs,' 'Strengthening the ability to attract new customers through the development of specialized products,' 'Expanding original downtown functions by utilizing the Yeoju City Hall site,' and 'Creating development conditions using urban management plans and special laws.'
Among the six practical goals, 'Creating a symbolic street of Yeoju' aims to improve accessibility to the original downtown by connecting the Yeoju Station area and the Namhan River, enabling the spread of floating population to key hubs and maximizing the ripple effects on surrounding areas, which is expected to contribute to an increase in tourist inflow and revitalization of the Sejong-ro commercial district.
Another practical goal is 'Expanding original downtown functions by utilizing the Yeoju City Hall site' following the relocation of the city hall, which introduces lodging and rest facilities lacking in the original downtown, securing the capability to link various functions and extend stay time, thereby strengthening the possibility of sustainable development of the original downtown through increased floating population and commercial district revitalization centered on tourism and stay.
Mayor Lee Chung-woo of Yeoju City said, “We will check each of the six practical goals of the 'Master Plan for Revitalizing Yeoju City's Original Downtown' to ensure their realization,” and added, “We ask for the active participation and cooperation of citizens.”
Additionally, Park Doo-hyung, Chairman of the Yeoju City Council, emphasized, “The executive branch and the council will cooperate and do their best to revitalize the original downtown.”
Meanwhile, the city plans to make the 'Master Plan for Revitalizing Yeoju City's Original Downtown' report available for public viewing by the end of this month.
