The Honam Historical Society, regarding the 'martial law' incident, stated on the 5th that "President Yoon Seok-yeol's unconstitutional and illegal declaration of martial law was a reactionary outrage," and "actively supports and cheers for the National Assembly's approval of the impeachment motion."
In a statement issued under the name of "all members," the Honam Historical Society said, "This incident has proven that President Yoon is a 'dangerous figure,'" adding, "'Voluntary resignation' would be the best option, but if not carried out, legal procedures must be followed."
They continued, "Fully armed martial law troops ravaged the National Assembly by helicopter and armored vehicles, and in response, lawmakers and citizens defended the National Assembly, leading to tense and critical moments," emphasizing, "Fortunately, the ruling and opposition parties resolved the situation by voting to lift the martial law, but the shockwave was significant."
The Honam Historical Society also stated, "Although the National Assembly is pushing for suspension of duties through impeachment, there is a risk it could devolve into political strife. Since the suspension of duties for a 'dangerous figure' is urgent, the impeachment motion must be approved," and proposed, "Let us overcome this martial law outrage and turn it into an opportunity to develop into a stronger democratic nation."
