Choo Kyung-ho "Frequent Impeachments Paralyze South Korea"
Han Dong-hoon Opposes Impeachment While Demanding Yoon's Party Withdrawal
"Must Prevent Forces from Taking Power to Avoid Criminal Charges"
The People Power Party reaffirmed its party stance on the 5th to reject the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol, triggered by the emergency martial law situation on December 3rd. The reason is to prevent social chaos caused by the president's impeachment and the Democratic Party of Korea's outrage.
On the 5th, at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly, People Power Party floor leader Choo Kyung-ho said, "As the ruling party floor leader, I deeply apologize to the people for the great shock and concern caused to the public over the past two days until the president's emergency martial law declaration was lifted," but also stated that they would reject President Yoon's impeachment. Earlier, the People Power Party convened a party members' meeting at the National Assembly the previous night and confirmed opposition to the impeachment motion against President Yoon as the party stance.
Regarding the reason for opposing the passage of President Yoon's impeachment motion, Floor Leader Choo explained, "What remained after the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye was a starkly divided Korea and political revenge investigations into deep-rooted corruption. Those scars remain deeply in many places. Impeaching the president would be repeating another historical tragedy."

He continued, "Moreover, now they say they will unilaterally pass the impeachment of the Board of Audit and Inspection chief and the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office leadership at today's meeting without even the slightest effort to negotiate the agenda," emphasizing, "The Democratic Party's all-out impeachment spree targeting the constitutional institution head, the Board of Audit and Inspection chief, and the nation's leader, the president, following cabinet members, political committee members, and investigative prosecutors, is a threat to the separation of powers that incites public division and conflict and paralyzes the functions of the Republic of Korea."
Party leader Han Dong-hoon also demanded President Yoon's withdrawal from the party again at the Supreme Council meeting that day, saying, "The Democratic Party's outrage is severe and must be judged, but unconstitutional and illegal emergency martial law cannot be justified." However, targeting Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party, he expressed the position of blocking the passage of the impeachment motion, saying, "We must also stop the forces trying to seize power to avoid criminal charges."
