From Dobong-gu Elementary Students to Grandmothers in Their 80s, Fully Immersed in 'Breaking'

Dobong-gu Hosts Breaking One-Day Class... All Dobong-gu Office Breaking Team Members Attend... Participants Aged Teens to 80s Diverse

From Dobong-gu Elementary Students to Grandmothers in Their 80s, Fully Immersed in 'Breaking' Eo On-seok, Dobong-gu Mayor (center), is performing breakdancing.

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) held a 'Breaking One-Day Class' on the 28th of last month at Seoninbong Hall on the 2nd floor of Dobong-gu Office.

News that the entire Dobong-gu Office breaking professional team, including Kim Hong-yeol (Hongten), who shone at the Paris Olympics, would serve as one-day instructors attracted nearly 100 people on site that day. Participants ranged from elementary school students to grandmothers in their 80s.

On this day, the entire team personally shared their know-how. The team demonstrated techniques such as toprock, footwork, and freezes, teaching each move to the participants. Participants focused intently on every word and movement from these top-tier Korean athletes.

One participant said, “I was so excited and happy to see the team and learn directly from them. If there is another chance, I definitely want to participate again.”

Another participant said, “I am working hard with a dream of becoming a breaking athlete. Today’s event will be a great strength for my future journey.”

The day ended with each participant taking turns to showcase the moves they learned. The shy movements of children learning breaking for the first time, the flashy moves of aspiring b-boys and b-girls, and the remarkable moves of an ordinary office worker who used to practice breaking behind the classroom in childhood were all displayed.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “Although it was a brief meeting with the team, I hope it was a time to get closer to your dreams and hopes,” and added, “We will continue to expand the Breaking One-Day Class so that many people can participate without time constraints.”
