Seongdong-gu Conducts Safety Inspections for 818 Vulnerable Households... Eliminating Safety Blind Spots

Free On-site Inspection and Safety Supplies for Vulnerable Groups at High Risk of Accidents Including Disabled and Elderly in Electricity, Gas, Fire, and Boiler Sectors... Korea Electrical Safety Corporation Collaborates with YESCO to Support Automatic Fire-Extinguishing Multi-Tap, Circuit Breaker Maintenance, and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Installation

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced that it has completed inspections and maintenance for 818 vulnerable households at high risk of safety accidents such as electrical leakage and fire.

Vulnerable groups living in poor housing conditions are more exposed to greater risks as they find it difficult to respond to various disaster accidents such as electrical leakage, electric shock, and fire.

Accordingly, the district signed a business agreement in May with safety specialized organizations, Korea Electrical Safety Corporation and YESCO, to conduct free safety inspections and maintenance to prevent safety accidents.

Targeting 818 vulnerable households including basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income groups, disabled persons, and seniors aged 65 or older residing in the area, a total budget of 47.6 million KRW was invested to conduct inspections in four areas: ▲ electricity ▲ gas ▲ fire safety ▲ boiler, and safety supplies were also provided.

For each area, the respective organizations visited the target households directly to replace aged outlets, maintain leakage breakers, and install carbon monoxide (CO) alarms based on gas leakage inspection results.

Boiler gas pipes, which can cause leakage accidents after long-term use, were replaced from rubber type to metal type, fire extinguishers were distributed, and fire alarm installation was supported to prepare for unexpected fire accidents.

In addition, automatic fire-extinguishing power strips were provided to prevent fire accidents in daily life, receiving high praise from residents. The district plans to expand support for automatic fire-extinguishing power strips starting next year.

Kim 00, a vulnerable resident who received the safety inspection, expressed gratitude, saying, “I feel truly relieved to receive an automatic fire-extinguishing power strip and fire extinguisher ahead of the winter season when the use of electric heating devices increases and fire risk rises.”

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “Since safety accidents occurring in daily life can potentially lead to life-threatening incidents, we are focusing on preventive measures such as inspections to protect the safety of vulnerable groups,” and added, “We will continue thorough inspections and seamless support to create a Seongdong without safety blind spots.”
