Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, nominated former Congressman Billy Long as the next Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on the 4th (local time).
On the same day, Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, "I am pleased to nominate former Congressman Billy Long of Missouri as the IRS Commissioner," adding, "He is a true 'people-centered leader' and a figure respected by both parties."
He described former Congressman Billy as "having 32 years of experience running his own business in real estate and a career as one of the top auctioneers in the country. He also served in Congress for 12 years," and introduced him by saying, "After leaving Congress, he worked as a business and tax advisor, helping small businesses smoothly navigate the complex procedures required to comply with IRS regulations."
He also added, "I have known Billy since 2011, and he is a very sincere person," and "Taxpayers and IRS employees will greatly appreciate him serving as Commissioner."
The IRS Commissioner, a key figure in federal tax administration, is nominated by the President and must be confirmed by the Senate.
