One Year After Release... Re-entering Movie Rating App Rankings
The film Seoul's Spring is being reexamined amid the situation surrounding the lifting of the emergency martial law declaration. As President Yoon Seok-yeol declared martial law and martial law troops entered the National Assembly, the live broadcast of the scene reminded viewers of scenes from this film, leading to demands for its re-release in theaters.
As of 9 PM on the 4th, Seoul's Spring ranked 18th on the movie rating application WatchaPedia's "Hot Ranking." The "Hot Ranking" is a ranking based on user search volume and other factors. Although Seoul's Spring, which was released in November last year, had not recently appeared in the rankings, it newly entered the list on this day.
The renewed attention to this film appears to be influenced by President Yoon's declaration of martial law on the afternoon of the 3rd. On that day, helicopters appeared over the National Assembly, and martial law troops entered the National Assembly, with the scenes broadcast live in real time.
As a result, requests for the re-release of Seoul's Spring flooded social networking services (SNS). The appearance of helicopters over the National Assembly and the entry of martial law troops reminded people of Seoul's Spring. Set against the backdrop of the December 12, 1979 military coup, Seoul's Spring depicts Jeon Du-gwang mobilizing soldiers to seize power through a rebellion, with rebel forces driving tanks and armored vehicles through downtown Seoul toward Gwanghwamun.
On X (formerly Twitter), Seoul's Spring appeared in real-time search rankings, and images combining photos of President Yoon with scenes from the film were also shared.
