Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States who has announced bombshell tariffs on Canada, provoked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau by telling him to "become the 51st state of the United States" if Canada cannot afford the tariffs. Following this, Trump mocked Trudeau by posting a photo of the Canadian flag and the Rocky Mountains on social media, the British daily The Telegraph reported on the 3rd (local time).

According to the report, Trump posted an image on his social media platform Truth Social showing himself standing next to a huge Canadian flag, gazing at the Rocky Mountains, a symbol of Canada.

He accompanied the image with a single line of text saying, "Oh Canada!" without any further explanation.

This post came after reports that Trump had made a threatening joke during a dinner with Trudeau, who came to meet him last week, saying that if Canada struggles to bear the tariffs, it could become the 51st state of the United States.

Fox News reported the previous day that during the dinner held on the 29th of last month at Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, Trump told Trudeau that if he found it difficult to meet the demands to avoid additional tariffs, then "become the 51st state of the United States."

Trump has stated that if Canada does not resolve issues related to illegal immigration entering the United States and the trade imbalance, he will impose a 25% tariff on all Canadian products starting from his first day in office.

In response, Trudeau appealed during the dinner that imposing tariffs would completely kill the Canadian economy. Trump then reportedly said, "Does Canada mean it cannot survive unless it extracts a whopping 100 billion dollars from the United States?" and added that if so, then it should become the 51st state of the United States, Fox News reported.
