On the 3rd, Seosan City in Chungnam was selected as an 'Outstanding Local Government in the Field of Self-Sufficiency' at the 2024 Self-Sufficiency Project Expo hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
According to the city, this expo was held at COEX Magok in Seoul under the theme 'Beautiful Self-Sufficiency Projects, The Path of Happy Companionship,' and included awards for distinguished contributors and presentations of excellent self-sufficiency cases.
At the expo, Seosan City was the only local government in Chungcheongnam-do to receive the Minister of Health and Welfare Award as an outstanding local government in the field of self-sufficiency.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare annually evaluates local governments nationwide in four areas and twelve categories, including self-sufficiency work, asset formation support projects, revitalization of self-sufficiency funds (enterprises), and self-sufficiency project management, to select outstanding local governments.
To promote the graduation of self-sufficiency participants from welfare benefits, the city has continuously and proactively provided counseling to participants and collaborated with related organizations such as the Seosan City Self-Sufficiency Center and the Employment Welfare Plus Center.
In particular, the city was highly praised for its smooth operation of asset formation support projects, which helped low-income citizens become self-reliant and contributed to the improvement of citizens' welfare.
Mayor Lee Wanseop stated, "We will continue to strive to create conditions for self-reliance and enhance the capabilities of the working poor through self-sufficiency projects," and added, "We will further devote ourselves to promoting self-reliance and self-sufficiency support projects for low-income residents."
