Busan Port Authority Holds the 1st Smart Port Technology Innovation Forum

Establishing the Concept of Korean-Style Smart Ports and Discussing Optimal Technology Directions

Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) will hold the "1st Smart Port Technology Innovation Forum" on the 10th and 11th at the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center (BPEX).

Busan Port Authority organized this event for the first time this year with the purpose of discussing and developing optimal technologies suited to domestic port conditions in the era of Korean-style smart ports, which began with the opening of the country's first fully automated container terminal, New Port Pier 7, in April.

Until now, smart port academic discussions and seminars have mainly been based on overseas cases, but there has been a demand for establishing a "Korean-style smart port model" that fits the actual container terminal environment in Korea.

Busan Port Authority formed the forum to widely share its experience and know-how of supplying the infrastructure and automated port equipment for the fully automated terminal at New Port Pier 7, and the forum consists of ▲keynote speech (The Value of the Sea, Busan Port Provides the Answer) ▲presentations by sector (terminal infrastructure, automation, operation, sustainability) ▲comprehensive discussion ▲and side events.

In the detailed presentations by sector, experts will present and discuss ▲global port automation trends and directions ▲paradigm shifts in ports ▲port carbon neutrality policies ▲and the layout plan for Jinhae New Port.

Lee Sang-kwon, Head of Construction Division at Busan Port Authority, said, "This forum will serve as an opportunity to define smart ports suitable for Korea’s conditions, discuss technical issues and directions for building Korean-style smart ports, and derive implications."
