Contribution to Expanding the Base of Climate, Environment, and Ecology Education
The National Honam Biological Resources Center under the Ministry of Environment recently announced on the 4th that it received the Minister of Education Commendation for '2024 National Education Development Merit.'
The National Education Development Merit Award is a government award organized by the Ministry of Education to select and honor individuals who have contributed to the development of all fields of education with a strong sense of duty, recognizing their achievements and fostering an environment for educational advancement.

The National Honam Biological Resources Center operates various educational programs throughout the life cycle on climate change, carbon neutrality, and biological resources for all citizens, including infants, elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as university students and adults, focusing on island and coastal biological resources and biodiversity.
Since its opening in May 2021, over 43,000 students and adults have participated in the center's educational programs over the past four years. The center was also recognized for its contributions to expanding climate, environmental, and ecological education through educational sharing activities with local children's centers and communication and cooperation with government, local governments, and education offices.
Namjin Park, Director of Education at the National Honam Biological Resources Center, stated, “This award is the result of the passion of our staff and educational instructors who actively participated in operating the educational programs, as well as the participation of many citizens nationwide, including local students.” He added, “We will continue to strive to develop and operate various life cycle educational programs that everyone can enjoy, leveraging the characteristics of an island and coastal biological resources research institute.”
