The experiment involved various organizations including the National Fire Agency Research Institute, Gyeonggi Northern Fire and Disaster Headquarters, Gyeonggi University, and the fire stations of Yangju, Goyang, Uijeongbu, and Dongducheon. It was carried out to analyze harmful substances produced by electric vehicle fires and to prepare countermeasures for safety accidents.


Yang Cheol-gyu, a fire investigator at Yangju Fire Station, stated, “This study is based on an electric vehicle fire case that occurred in Eunhyeon-myeon, Yangju City last August. We plan to scientifically analyze the harmful substances to which firefighters may be directly exposed and utilize the findings to improve standard operating procedures (SOP) and protective gear.”


Chief Kang Deok-won said, “Our collective task is to establish realistic and scientific response measures so that firefighters can safely perform their duties even in the most dangerous moments. The results of this study will not only enhance firefighter safety but also greatly contribute to building social trust, allowing the public to use electric vehicles with confidence.”
