Lee Jae-myung: "Yoon May Stage a Personal Coup for Kim Gun-hee... Could Lead to Localized Conflict"

Opposition 5 Parties Urge Yoon's Resignation and Push for Impeachment at Emergency National Rally
"Situation Serious Enough That President Should Not Perform Duties"

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, claimed on the 4th that regarding the 'martial law' declared by President Yoon Seok-yeol which ended after 6 hours, "(President Yoon) will likely engage in localized conflict the moment he judges that the emergency martial law involving the use of force is ineffective."

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, is giving a statement in the early morning of the 4th at the National Assembly after the resolution demanding the lifting of martial law was passed. President Yoon Seok-yeol declared martial law in an emergency statement on the night of the 3rd.

On the same day, at the steps in front of the main government building, Lee spoke at the 'Emergency National Rally to Urge President Yoon Seok-yeol's Resignation and Impeachment' held jointly by the five opposition parties including the Democratic Party and the Innovation Party for Justice, saying, "President Yoon carried out a personal coup d'?tat for himself and his wife using the power granted by the people."

The rally was attended by the five opposition parties: the Democratic Party, Innovation Party for Justice, Progressive Party, Basic Income Party, and Social Democratic Party. Approximately 5,000 citizens, estimated by the Democratic Party, also participated.

Lee warned, "They will try again after one failure, but the risk is greater. There is a significant danger of provoking North Korea and disturbing the Demilitarized Zone, potentially leading to armed conflict," adding, "If emergency martial law that tramples on countless human rights to maintain power is insufficient, they will sacrifice the lives of the people."

Opposition party lawmakers from the Democratic Party of Korea and the Joguk Innovation Party, along with citizens, are shouting slogans at the "Emergency National Rally to Urge President Yoon Seok-yeol's Resignation and Impeachment Promotion," held on the steps in front of the National Assembly main building on the 4th.

He continued, "(President Yoon) does not hesitate to cause massive destruction for even the smallest personal gain. He is in a state where normal and rational judgment is difficult," and requested, "I ask the sovereign people of this country to stand together."

Park Chan-dae, floor leader of the Democratic Party, also criticized, saying, "The declaration of martial law violates both constitutional and legal procedures and contents, constituting grounds for impeachment," and added, "It has been confirmed that the president is in such a seriously abnormal state that he should not perform his duties even for a single minute or second."

Cho Guk, leader of the Innovation Party for Justice, criticized, "Last night, President Yoon himself fulfilled the conditions for impeachment. He committed crimes under Article 87 of the Criminal Act (rebellion) and Article 7 of the Military Criminal Act (military rebellion)," and said, "Yoon Seok-yeol is merely one criminal who committed the most serious crimes under our country's criminal law."

Cho emphasized, "Will the members of the People Power Party sink together with Yoon? Choose whether to stand with the people or with Yoon Seok-yeol," and stressed, "We will fight until Yoon and his accomplices are impeached and criminally prosecuted and stand trial."
