"Worries That It May Cause Domestic and International Political Turmoil"

Regarding the 'Declaration of Martial Law' incident, Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, Seoul, stated on the 4th, "Seongdong-gu will calmly fulfill its duties in its place and make every effort to ensure that daily life can continue without disruption," adding, "All operations of the district office will also proceed normally without change."

That morning, Mayor Jung sent a text message to residents saying, "We will do our best to ensure that the precious daily lives of our residents are not shaken."


Mayor Jung expressed concern, saying, "It is worrisome that many citizens experienced great fear overnight and social confusion was caused, regardless of the lifting of martial law," and added, "Although martial law has been lifted, the social anxiety caused by the emergency situation may not be easily overcome and could lead to various disturbances in future domestic and international affairs, which is especially concerning."


During an emergency expanded executive meeting held that morning, Mayor Jung urged the staff, "Please make efforts so that public officials can provide a sense of stability to the residents."


Meanwhile, the martial law situation was resolved when the National Assembly passed a resolution demanding the lifting of martial law at around 1 a.m. with 190 members present and 190 votes in favor, unanimously. President Yoon announced the lifting of martial law through a live national address at 4:26 a.m., just six hours after the declaration of martial law.
