"One in Three Senior Figures in Politics, Government, and Business Reside in Gangnam 3 Districts"

A survey found that one in three high-ranking officials, members of the National Assembly, and business owner families and CEOs live in Seoul's 'Gangnam 3 Districts (Gangnam, Seocho, Songpa-gu)'.

On the 4th, Leaders Index, a corporate analysis research institute, investigated the addresses of 811 people, including 314 government officials at the vice minister level or higher in the current administration, 298 members of the 22nd National Assembly, and 199 owners and incumbent CEOs of the top 30 conglomerates. The results showed that 219 people (27%) live in Seoul's Gangnam, Seocho, and Songpa districts.


By metropolitan local government, 476 people (58.7%) reside in Seoul, and 145 people (17.9%) in Gyeonggi Province. Combining residents of Seoul and Gyeonggi Province totals 621 people, accounting for 76.6% of the total. Following were Busan Metropolitan City with 26 people (3.2%), Sejong Special Self-Governing City with 21 people (2.6%), and Gyeongsangnam-do, Daegu Metropolitan City, and Daejeon Metropolitan City each with 16 people (2%).


By basic local government, Seocho-gu in Seoul had 101 people (12.5%), Gangnam-gu in Seoul 94 people (11.6%), Yongsan-gu in Seoul 45 people (5.5%), Bundang-gu in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province 43 people (5.3%), and Songpa-gu in Seoul 24 people (3%) in order. Residents of the Gangnam 3 Districts?Gangnam-gu, Seocho-gu, and Songpa-gu in Seoul?numbered 219, accounting for 27% of the total. Including Yongsan-gu in Seoul and Bundang-gu in Seongnam-si with the Gangnam 3 Districts brings the total to 307 people, or 37.9% of the total.


Leaders Index explained that for high-ranking officials and members of the National Assembly, the survey was based on the addresses of the highest-valued houses registered under their own names in the high-ranking public officials' asset declarations; if there was no house under their own name, the highest-valued house under their spouse's name was used. For owners and CEOs of the top 30 conglomerates, the addresses disclosed in the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system were reflected.
