'Banggakbon Murder Case' Vidal·Lee Seung-min
Julio C?sar Abad Vidal and Lee Seung-min, who translated Kim Tak-hwan's 'Banggakbon Murder Case' into Spanish, will receive the Korean Literature Translation Award Grand Prize.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Literature Translation Institute of Korea announced on the 4th that they selected these translators along with Novoslav Georgiy, who translated Son Won-pyung's 'Almond' into Russian, as the grand prize winners. The awards ceremony will be held at the President Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul on the same day.
The judging panel stated that Vidal and Lee "deeply researched the extensive novel set in the Joseon Dynasty and served as excellent guides for overseas readers." Regarding Georgiy, they evaluated that he "captured Son Won-pyung's unique writing style well, enhancing readability."
The Literary Translation Newcomer Award went to nine individuals: Adel Wi Sing Min (English), Luca Cami (French), Laura Maria Schr?der (German), Marisol Moreno Ochoa (Spanish), Amina Muradaliyeva (Russian), Hwang Yeo-woon (Chinese), Shimizu Honami (Japanese), Nguyen Phuong Trang (Vietnamese), and Scatena Nastasia (Italian). They were recognized for their excellent translation skills in contests translating the anonymous work 'Sodaeseonjeong', Hwang Se-yeon's 'Stanley Milgram's Law', and Kim Ji-yeon's 'Companion Debt'.
In the film translation category, four recipients?Lee Seung-yoon (English), Gonzalez Lorente Ana (Spanish), Jong-su (Chinese), and Ootsuka Chika (Japanese)?were honored. They skillfully translated director Jeon Ji-hee's 'Gukdo Theater' and director Bae Chang-ho's 'Road'.
In the webtoon translation category, the awardees included Antony Ji Hill Lao (English), Fuzel Julie (French), Camila Beatriz Tonsel Chavez (Spanish), and Kim Yoo-jin (Japanese), who effectively translated Hwak Cheon-geum and Inai's 'Baekro Restaurant' and Mubeon’s 'Crown Prince Enrollment'.
