Assuming a Magnitude 6.0 Earthquake Occurs in Seoul
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced on the 4th that it conducted an earthquake response drill by activating the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the 28th of last month.
This drill was organized to check the rapid response system in the event of a large-scale earthquake and to review the duties of each department, following the magnitude 4.8 earthquake that occurred in Buan, Jeonbuk earlier this year.
Gangbuk-gu is operating the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to conduct earthquake response training. Provided by Gangbuk-gu.
The drill took place at the Gangbuk-gu Disaster and Safety Situation Room, with 13 task forces participating, including overall situation management of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, emergency livelihood support, and disaster site environmental maintenance.
The district assumed a scenario where a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Seoul, and trained on initial response and recovery processes for complex disaster situations such as the collapse of apartment buildings, a six-vehicle pile-up traffic accident, and housing damage and evacuees caused by landslides.
This drill focused on checking the duties and roles of each task force according to the 2024 Gangbuk-gu Earthquake Disaster Prevention Implementation Plan and strengthening step-by-step response procedures. In particular, to ensure rapid initial disaster response, emphasis was placed on enhancing efficiency and speed in early resident evacuation, assessment of human and structural damage, and emergency recovery by utilizing the disaster safety communication network (PS-LTE).
The district plans to continuously strengthen training and response systems to protect residents' safety and lives in preparation for various disaster situations, including earthquakes.
Mayor Lee Soon-hee stated, “This drill was conducted with a focus on strengthening the duties and roles among institutions,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to thoroughly prepare for various disasters and protect the lives and property of our residents.”
