Expectations and Support Continue from Goyang Citizens
Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 4th that it attended the first-stage in-depth preliminary designation review for the new designation of a Gyeonggi-type science high school on the 2nd.

During the in-depth questioning conducted online in a non-face-to-face manner, one representative each from the Office of Education and the local government participated as respondents, confirming the contents of the application and conducting detailed inquiries.
The Office of Education explained that this in-depth questioning was added in consultation with the evaluation committee following opinions that evaluation based solely on document review was insufficient.
Accordingly, the announcement of the first-stage preliminary designation results, originally scheduled for the end of November, was postponed by about two weeks.
Meanwhile, support from Goyang citizens for the establishment of the science high school has continued even after the science high school application in November.
Goyang citizens are actively supporting the establishment of the science high school, saying it will raise the educational level of Goyang City and serve as an important opportunity to nurture science and technology talents in the Gyeonggi region, including Goyang.
Considering the characteristics of Goyang’s focus on advanced technology projects, it is also expected that the science high school will have a positive impact on the local economy and industrial development.
The Gyeonggi-type science high school is scheduled to be designated and announced in February next year after going through the first-stage preliminary designation, the second-stage special-purpose high school designation operation committee review, and the third-stage approval by the Minister of Education.
Goyang City plans to do its best to attract the Gyeonggi-type science high school to Goyang, reflecting the wishes of Goyang citizens who hope to host the science high school.
