Woo Won-sik "President Must Immediately Lift Martial Law... National Assembly Confirms Democracy's Last Bastion"

On the 4th, Speaker of the National Assembly Woo Won-sik once again demanded that President Yoon Seok-yeol immediately lift the martial law. Speaker Woo also urged the military and police to carry out their assigned duties.


On the same day, in an emergency statement in front of the plenary session hall, Speaker Woo said, "The National Assembly passed a resolution at 1 a.m. according to the constitutional procedure to demand the lifting of martial law," adding, "The President must immediately lift the martial law." He continued, "I demand the immediate convening of the State Council meeting and the announcement of the lifting of martial law," emphasizing, "This is the demand of the people and the command of the Constitution."

Regarding the military forces that attempted to enter the National Assembly as martial law troops, Speaker Woo said, "Although the military mobilized to the National Assembly following the President's declaration of martial law, their immediate withdrawal in accordance with the National Assembly's resolution to lift martial law demonstrates the maturity of our military alongside democracy," adding, "The military must now clearly recognize that the President must lift the martial law and unwaveringly fulfill its fundamental duty as the people's military that protects the Constitution and the people."


Regarding the tense night, the National Assembly stated, "Today, our people and the National Assembly confirmed that the National Assembly is the last bastion of democracy in the Republic of Korea," and expressed deep gratitude to the citizens who trusted and stood with the Assembly. Speaker Woo declared, "The National Assembly will take all necessary measures to stabilize the current national turmoil."
